DEATH OF LAMA’S WIFE INSPIRES BOOK ON DEATH, DYING AND REBIRTH

Lama Ole Nydahl witnessed the power of the meditation he teaches in the most intimate way imaginable.

Nydahl is one of the world’s leading experts on the profound Tibetan Buddhist meditation practice used at the time of death ("Phowa", or “conscious dying”). He received training in these rare practices from the high lamas of Tibet. And, since 1987, he has taught this meditation to over 90,000 people worldwide.

These teachings proved themselves in an especially poignant way, when Lama Ole’s wife of 39 years was diagnosed with a fatal illness. The certainty Hannah Nydahl, also highly trained in “Phowa”, gained from the practice enabled her to live her last few months in a beautifully lucid, dignified, and inspiring way.

As Lama Ole tells the story: “When my wife Hannah found out that she had lung cancer, we were shocked, but inwardly calm. We knew what awaited us and especially her. Her mind stayed open, despite our strong love for each other. She used the last months of her life as well as possible to complete her work and then consciously said goodbye to all her friends, the day before she lost her speech. She died with dignity, a smile on her lips.” And in Lama Ole’s arms. Nydahl adds, “I became a teacher precisely for this decisive moment in life.”

ANNOUNCING THE RELEASE OF FEARLESS DEATH: BUDDHIST WISDOM ON THE ART OF DYING

On May 1st, Diamond Way Press will release Lama Ole Nydahl’s new book (his 9th in English), which introduces the “Phowa” or “conscious dying” mediation practice. It also covers research in the field of Near Death Experience (NDE), and provides a roadmap that leads the reader through “the undiscovered country” step-by-step, and points to what comes next. It is informed not only by rare Buddhist teachings, but also by the author’s own life experiences and the many he’s helped over the years.

NATIONAL SPEAKING TOUR BEGINS WITH SYMPOSIUM ON DEATH, DYING AND TRANSFORMATION

The release of Fearless Death will be accompanied by a speaking tour spanning the US and Canada, beginning in May and ending in early June. The tour will begin in Houston with a public talk followed the next day with a symposium in which Nydahl joins a panel discussion of noted experts in the field of end-of-life care, including such notables as Dr. Janice Holden, Dr. Susan Lieberman, and Dr. Gus Krucke, MD.

Originally from Denmark, Nydahl is a fully authorized Lama trained by Tibetan meditation masters. He is known for his skill in making classical Buddhist teachings and techniques practical for those in the West. He has, in fact, established over 600 centers in 50 countries and counseled thousands of students on dealing with the death process.
